“It is particularly ironic that the battle to save the world's remaining healthy ecosystems will be won or lost not in tropical forests or coral reefs that are threatened but on the streets of the most unnatural landscapes on the planet.”- Worldwatch Institute. 2007

Itinery

So after a few frantic days passport hunting, packing and trying ot finish up outstanding work (at home and at work) I'm off tomorrow to Bath for an aikido seminar, the start of a month of travels. I've still got a few gaps but they're filling up fast, I'm hoping I haven't left so little space taht I won't be able to fit in spontaneous opprtunities as I go. At the moment it's looking like this:
13th-16th Sept , Germany (Flensburg, Gluecksburg and Shaffland)
Looking at : Town district heating and transition plan to fire from locally sourced biomass, Artefact eco-centre, Biogas co-generation and district heating

17th-26th Sept, Denmark (Skive, Viborg, Samsoe, Copenhagen)
Looking at: Town hall energy systems including heat rejection from public ice rink, School energy centre district heating, Energy island – wind, solar and straw fired CHP district heating, Copenhagen harbour development and cycling city!

27th Sept- 1st Oct, Sweden (Malmo, Stockholm)
Lookign at: Malmo City Council energy strategies, Western harbour development – 100% renewable energy with E-On, Hammarby with Skanska

2nd – 8th October, The Netherlands/Belgium (Schiedam, The Hague, Rijswik, Goor, Drongen) looking at: Multi-Residential low energy developments, Heat pumps, A housing association development – test site for low energy/renewable energy concepts, Passive House with Itho ventilation

I'm really quite excited.
I'm not sleeping very well.
My brain keeps waking me up to remind me to do stuff/pack things.
The housemate says she doesn't mind not having heating - and has bought me snacks to hide in my packing. That will not make me feel guilty.

  1. Hi Becca;
    Great research topic! A book might follow?
    Great blog! Really looking forward to hearing what you find out as you go...
    Great bike! Is the folding mechanism a cunning plan to foil the rail companies?
    Great if I'd got round to calling you this week but not so great I didn't, but I will before you go, and keep hold of that kettle.....
